A flatbed truck is an essential possession, especially for the people owning a landscaping business or a fencing company. These trucks are helpful when carrying wood, plants or just about anything that you want to transfer to somewhere else mainly because of one thing: they can have pickup truck flatbeds installed on to them.
Pickup truck flatbeds give you a variety of options when hauling things. Flatbeds are especially easy to build in pickup trucks because they already have a flat surface in which it can be placed. One reason why most people transform the back of their trucks using flatbeds is due to a rusty or damaged bed.
If you have a pickup truck and wanted to transform its back into something more useful or if just needs replacement, you can make your own pickup truck flatbeds right at your home. You can follow these steps so you can have your own flatbeds for your truck without spending for someone else to do it for you:
Step 1
You have to remove the old bed from the back of your truck first. For your pickup truck flatbeds, you can use a ratchet set so you can loosen the frame of the old truck bed and then disconnect the electrical wiring connected to the tail lights.
Step 2
You need to determine the dimensions of the flat bed so you know what size of wood you will need for your pickup truck flatbeds. You should also build a square metal frame together with the dimensions of your flatbeds.
Step 3
Cut four pieces of metal sheets so it matches the dimensions that you already have. You have the choice to weld or bolt it together into a rectangle and keep in mind the presence of the taillights for later arrangements. You may now lay the planking on the frame for your pickup truck flatbeds you previously made then bolt the ends using short lag bolts.
Step 4
Now, you have to bolt the planks side by side. By this time, you have already created a solid deck of boards for your pickup truck flatbeds. With the help of some friends, you may now lift the frame into the back of your truck and then following in reverse what you did in Step 1.
Step 5
You are almost done with your homemade pickup truck flatbeds so you have to mount the tail lights on the rear of your new flatbed. Check if the wiring harness is connected the right way and make sure that your lights are working.
